Welcome to hurricane season, Houstonians, but hold tight, as we've got storms brewing already, though it's not all gloom with a calm in the tropics forecast for the next week. According to Houston's Weather Forecast, today could serve up showers and thunderstorms post-2pm with a feisty 60% chance of precipitation that could drench the city in up to three quarters of an inch of rain, as the mercury flirts with a sultry 89 degrees. Tonight, storm chances slim down to a meager 20% before 8 pm, giving way to a mostly cloudy sky and a mild 78-degree low.
But there’s more action coming up on Sunday, with a 30 percent chance of storms in the second half of the day though it's partly sunny skies for the most part, and temperatures are expected to hover around the high 80s said the forecast, then as we slide into Sunday night, those clouds aren't going anywhere, and neither is that thick blanket of warmth, settling at around 79 degrees. The National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center is eyeing a slight risk of severe thunderstorms from the northern and central Plains pushing into the Upper Midwest on Sunday, with our area catching the tail end of the meteorological melee.
And while hurricanes typically steal the seasonal spotlight, The National Hurricane Center announces a breather with a peaceful prediction for the Atlantic over the next 7 days, kicking off the 2024 season with a gentle start. This respite offers a window for the city to gear up for potentially more damaging weather patterns prone to peak from June through November.
As we look to the start of the week, the blend of mostly sunny skies and a high near 90 on Monday promises a typical sizzle for Houston, this pattern which gives way to a partly sunny Tuesday and temperature forecasts teasing the 90s, is just a teaser for the higher temps expected midweek, still, locals know it’s the humidity, not the heat, that turns the air into a swampy soup. Wednesday and Thursday's forecasts are turning up the dial even further with anticipated highs in the low to mid-90s and overnight lows that make 70s feel as sticky as molasses. Friday looks to follow suit with unabashed sunshine and a high near 93 degrees.
