Calling all parents with kiddos in grades K-5 in Houston, there's a lit opportunity to amp up your child's reading skills this summer - and it won't cost a dime. The Houston Public Library has teamed up with Trice Education Resources to kickstart the Get LIT Summer Literacy Program. The program promises one-on-one and group workshops designed to bolster literacy skills such as comprehension, phonics, and vocabulary at various library locations throughout the city.

Registration is now open and those interested can bag a 30-minute spot for their youngsters, in either English or Spanish, helping to boost reading fluency along with phonemic awareness. With the MYLink library card, students can also take home books. While the program runs through July 26, there is a catch at the Vinson Neighborhood Library - they've only got English-speaking tutors on hand. The free tutoring is available at several locations, including Carnegie, Mancuso, and Young libraries. By registering for HPL's Summer Reading Program, participants can net themselves a chance at winning prizes and gaining access to free events.

Founded back in the Windows 98 era, Trice Education Resources isn't new to the education game. They specialize in giving schools a leg up in areas ranging from literacy and data analysis to professional development and student support. By swiping up on the online form, parents can secure a slot for their kids.
