Following the somber revelation that U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee is facing a battle with pancreatic cancer, the Community of Faith Church in Houston is stepping up to offer support in the way they know best – through a public act of faith and solidarity. The Houston Chronicle informs that the church will be holding a prayer vigil at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, calling upon the community for an evening devoted to “prayer, praise and encouragement.”
Previously besting breast cancer, the indomitable congresswoman, who released a statement on June 3 about her diagnosis, is now preparing for a second, more personal fight. Despite the daunting personal challenge that lay before her, she remains steadfast, declaring her doctors have crafted what is described as the best possible plan to address her specific disease. Embracing a spirit of resilience, Sheila Jackson Lee stated, "As a member of Congress, I've been honored to be one of the leaders in the fight for justice and equality for all; especially the disadvantaged and the dispossessed," she told the public, "Today, my fight is more personal, but I will approach it with the same faith and the same courage."
In an illustration of communal solidarity, her close friend Bishop James Dixon underscored the significance of the upcoming vigil. Speaking with FOX 26 Houston, Dixon conveyed his hope for the community to gather and offer collective prayers for Congresswoman Jackson Lee’s health and recovery.
