
In a tragic turn of events on Friday afternoon, a person was struck and killed by a Metro A (Blue) Line light rail train in the Central-Alameda neighborhood of South Los Angeles, according to KTLA. Emergency services responded to the scene at 4421 S. Long Beach Ave., where the unidentified individual was pronounced dead after firefighters removed them from beneath the stationary train.
The fatal incident occurred at around 1:45 p.m., with the Los Angeles Fire Department swiftly arriving on location to aid, however, the victim's details such as identity, age, and gender remain undisclosed. Meanwhile, all the 42 passengers aboard the train were confirmed to be uninjured; this came to light through a statement obtained by KTLA.
Further information provided by the Los Angeles Fire Department indicated that there were no injuries reported among the individuals on the train, indicating the sole casualty as the person hit by the light rail vehicle. The incident, catalogued as INC#0906 by the department, drew the attention of various emergency response teams, including Battalion 13 and Council District 9.
While the circumstances leading up to the incident are still under investigation by the LAPD Central Traffic Division, the Medical Examiner and Metro officials are working together to unravel the specifics about the events that led up to the tragedy, the train remained at the location for an undetermined period which affected the movement in the area according to an alert from the Fire Department; inquiries are directed towards Metro, LAPD Central Traffic Division (Incident #2614) and the Medical Examiner for further clarifications on the matter.
