Yesterday evening, a mountain biker in distress was hoisted to safety from Skyline Park in Napa, thanks to the rapid response of CHP's Golden Gate Division Air Operations and local emergency services. The biker, who had been injured in a remote part of the park, was the focus of a rescue operation that included Napa State Hospital Fire, Napa County Fire, and AMR Napa County. CHP - Golden Gate Division Air Operations detailed the rescue on their Facebook page.
The aircraft, designated H-30, played a crucial role by deploying Napa State Fire personnel directly to the scene to assist the biker. Once on scene, they secured the injured individual into a rescue harness. Then, in a carefully executed airlift, H-30 hoisted the biker from the treacherous trail, flying them approximately 2 1/2 miles to the trailhead, where further help awaited. This coordination showcases how multiple agencies can come together to execute a life-saving mission in the face of challenging terrain and limited access.
Upon reaching the trailhead, the rescue team's effort concluded with a hand-off to waiting AMR paramedics. The patient, who had sustained moderate injuries, was promptly lowered to the ground and then swiftly transported to Queen of the Valley Hospital for medical care. The successful collaboration among the various emergency response teams ensured the biker received the necessary attention quickly.
