
An investigation is currently underway following the death of an inmate at the Marin County Jail, with both the Marin County Sheriff's Office and the San Rafael Police Department involved in the case. According to a press release from the Marin County Sheriff's Office, the 43-year-old male, who was Caucasian and awaiting trial, suffered a medical emergency on May 30, which resulted in his death.
The sequence of events at Marin County Jail began with a deputy discovering the inmate unresponsive during a routine cell check at 0209 hours. Authorities promptly tried to revive him, but ultimately, the inmate was pronounced dead at 0247 hrs. Following the initial response, the San Rafael Police Department took the helm of the independent investigation into the incident, while the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office Coroners Division is in charge of the autopsy and other related duties. In a statement obtained by Hoodline, the Marin County Sheriff's Office disclosed that the death occurred within B-Pod of the facility, located at 13 Peter Behr Dr in San Rafael.
As of now, the authorities have indicated that they will perform a post-mortem examination later this week to establish the cause of death, an aspect of the case that remains pending investigations by both the San Rafael Police Department and the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Division. Any further details regarding this case have not been released by the Marin County Sheriff's Office, recommending that any media inquiries regarding the ongoing probe should be directed to the San Rafael Police Department.
