As schools close for the summer break, the Irving Independent School District is not slowing down. It's gearing up to offer a wealth of summer learning opportunities for students eager to continue their education through the warmer months. According to the Irving Police Department, these programs are part of an initiative to keep young minds engaged and to prevent that notorious 'summer slide' in academic skills among students.
However, while these summer sessions offer a beacon of learning, drivers in the community must acknowledge that some school zones remain active. Owing to these zones being active, the Irving Police Department has issued a reminder to all: “Please slow down, don’t drive distracted, stay alert & follow all traffic laws!” While we appreciate the efforts of the police to remind drivers, reduced speed limits are there to protect everyone, especially our kids, who might be attending summer school or participating in various summer activities.
The ongoing vigor of these summer programs and the concurrent operational school zones create a dual need—not only for quality education but also for vigilant safety measures. It highlights a year-round commitment by the Irving Independent School District to provide educational resources, which, even as the traditional academic year ends, does not wane in its efforts to enrich student lives. Drivers in areas near schools must, in turn, support these efforts by being extra cautious during commutes.
