A tragic incident unfolded at Montrose Beach on Monday when a jet ski outing on Chicago's Lake Michigan turned fatal. According to WLS, a male jet skier submerged beneath the waves near Montrose Beach before 10:00 A.M. and did not resurface. Despite being rescued by the Chicago Fire Department (CFD) and transported to Weiss Memorial Hospital, the individual was pronounced dead later on.

The incident occurred amidst an influx of beachgoers seeking respite from the early summer heat. Officials stated that a female companion managed to swim to shore safely. Emergency responders who performed CPR on the male victim had not released additional details about the identities of the two jet skiers.

In a related event, as reported by WLS, authorities recovered a woman's body from Lake Michigan on Monday morning near Winnetka after a small boat had capsized the night before. Separately, search efforts continue for another individual who reportedly fell from a boat in an area known as the "Playpen" on Saturday.

In light of these recent events, CFD issued a safety reminder via their X account urging the public to wear flotation gear when partaking in water activities. "Please wear water flotation gear when on a jet ski or any boat in water. Even if close to shore. This can save your life!", the department posted
