A Knoxville man, aged 30, is now facing serious charges including rape after an incident reported at Market Square Parking Garage on Friday. According to the details released by the WBIR, the Knoxville Police Department was called to the location at around 2 p.m. following a distressing report from a 56-year-old woman, who claimed she was sexually assaulted by an unknown male in a bathroom within the parking structure.

The subsequent investigation quickly gathered momentum as the suspect, identified as Demetricus Hurst, became the focus of law enforcement after being captured on parking garage security footage. In efforts to urgently locate the suspect, images of Hurst were disseminated by the East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers. The prompt sharing of video and pictures helped to bring the investigation swiftly to a next phase. Hurst moved to just as quickly surrender himself, as he went to speak to detectives at the Public Safety Complex, said a WVLT report.

The Knoxville Police Department’s Special Crimes Unit was actively involved in the proceedings and conducted the questioning of Hurst. During the interaction with detectives, "Hurst confessed to sexually assaulting the person," as stated in a report by WATE. Following the confession, the police charged Hurst with rape, aggravated kidnapping, and sexual battery.

Hurst has been booked into the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility, according to the information provided by police in the aftermath of his confession. The charges laid against him are serious and carry significant weight in the eyes of the law.
