Fire crews who battled an earlier blaze at the same location two days prior had to switch to a defensive stance as heavy flames tore through the structure's roof and threatened to extend to neighboring premises, FOX LA reported.
As the inferno raged on, multiple units were dispatched just before 3:30 a.m., officials said, the flames rapidly consumed the shared wall between a one-story commercial building and the church complex. Due to the scale of the emergency, nearby residents were evacuated for their safety and a stretch of Slauson Avenue was closed off by LAPD officers, CBS Los Angeles noted.
