Lewisville's Juneteenth Celebration is back with a bang, as the city has confirmed that fans of jazz and R&B are in for a treat with a stellar line-up for its upcoming concert. The party kicks off June 14 at Wayne Ferguson Plaza, starting at 6 p.m., with free entry for anyone looking to join in on the celebrations of freedom and cultural appreciation.
The event will feature the Don Diego Band, known for delivering a jazz, funk, and R&B show packed with high-voltage energy. These seasoned performers are no strangers to the stage or the city's festivities, having played at the same celebration the previous year. Their repertoire includes touring with the likes of Vanilla Ice, as well as a platinum album to their name, as detailed in the City of Lewisville, Texas.
Joining the musical fray is the acclaimed Joyce Spencer, an artist whose saxophone, flute, and vocals span a broad musical spectrum from jazz to beyond. Spencer's craft transcends genre, navigating through traditional jazz, classical, and various contemporary styles. The Lewisville crowd was last graced with her vibrant performance at the Western Days festival the year prior.
Not to be overlooked, the Fingerprints band will be making their return to Lewisville's event scene, bringing their brand of smooth jazz and soul to the mix. This North Texas sextet is hailed as one of the best-kept secrets in Southern music, a testament to their talent and the level of entertainment they provide. The last appearance they had in Lewisville was during the Sounds of Lewisville concert series back in 2018.
Inspired by the Mayor’s Commission's initiative, Listen Learn Lead, the Juneteenth Celebration concert is part of an effort to implement over 30 recommendations for the city. These recommendations aim to bolster community engagement and inclusiveness, an ongoing process that the public can track on the city's website. Bringing culture and community together, the event also aligns with the "Old Town" Big Move outlined in the Lewisville 2025 vision plan, which is available for public viewing online.
With an enticing lineup and a commitment to community and heritage, this Juneteenth celebration at the heart of Old Town Lewisville is poised to be an event echoed in joyous remembrance and shared histories. Guests are encouraged to head down to Wayne Ferguson Plaza, off Interstate 35E via Main Street, where they can find free public parking ready to welcome them to an evening of music, unity, and celebration.
