Yesterday evening, a blaze erupted within a commercial building in the Chesterfield Square area, situated at 2158 W Slauson Av, as reported by the Los Angeles Fire Department. Firefighters were dispatched to tackle the intensive flames that put a neighboring church in jeopardy. However, due to swift action, the church was spared from any fire damage.
LAFD crews had to force entry into the affected building and the adjoining one-story church to combat the fire. With hose lines quickly put into action, they managed to confine the fire to the initial structure. The efforts of 50 firefighters were needed and it took approximately 32 minutes to fully access, confine and ultimately extinguish the fire. According to LAFD's alert, there have been no reported injuries, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
Firefighters assigned to Fire Station 66, along with multiple crews from surrounding stations, responded to Incident #1635 at around 11:05 PM. "Crews forced entry into both occupancies, and extended hose lines inside," LAFD's alert recounted the crucial moments of the operation that protected the place of worship. The church, sharing a wall with the commercial structure, was at risk of catching fire, but courageous efforts by the LAFD's fire attack teams prevented the flames from spreading.
The work of the Los Angeles Fire Department once again highlighted their preparedness to tackle emergency situations. Their rapid response and efficient firefighting tactics not only saved a structure considered vital by the community, but they also managed to do so without incurring any injuries to civilians or their own team. While the fire's origins remain unknown, investigators have actively begun to look into determining what could have led to igniting the establishment. "Ultimately it took 50 firefighters 32 minutes to access, confine, and extinguish the flames," noted the official report from Nicholas Prange of the LAFD.
