A tragic sequence of events left a male pedestrian dead after multiple vehicles struck him in the early hours of June 9 on the Pacific Coast Highway in Long Beach. The Long Beach Police Department's Collision Investigation Detectives are actively inquiring into the hit-and-run incident, which has raised serious concerns about pedestrian safety and driver responsibility.
The first report of the incident, which occurred at approximately 2:26 a.m., came when a vehicle, which has yet to be identified, hit the pedestrian as he crossed Pacific Coast Highway at Molino Avenue. According to the Long Beach Police Department press release, the victim was outside the bounds of a crosswalk when struck and was then hurled into another lane, only to be hit again. The initial offending vehicle fled the scene, leaving behind an escalating situation.
Following the first impact, a 2017 Kia Sportage, driven by an unnamed individual who later cooperated with law enforcement, struck the pedestrian as he lay on the road. The Kia's driver immediately pulled over and contacted emergency services. While awaiting their arrival, a third vehicle, described as a white truck, collided with the now motionless pedestrian, dragging him further east along the highway before also departing ahead of police intervention.
The Long Beach Fire Department responded to the scene and declared the pedestrian deceased. Subsequent involvement from the Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner will further investigate the circumstances, while the pedestrian’s identity awaits release pending their family's notification. The authorities are urging witnesses or anyone with relevant information to reach out to LBPD's Detective Ashley Van Holland at 562.570.5130. Anonymous tips can be directed to "LA Crime Stoppers" via various channels.
