The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety reported that the incident occurred after a man's use of illegal narcotics caused his clothing to catch fire, resulting in the sprinkler activation. The first responders, both police and fire personnel, reached the hotel located at 5040 Redwood Drive within a minute of receiving the alarm at 10:32 a.m. They found that the fire protection system had already been engaged in a second-story room, likely preventing further damage. However, the man involved sustained significant burns, "to his arms and the front of his torso," the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety noted. After providing immediate assistance, he was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for the treatment of his injuries.
The consequences of the fire extended beyond the injured individual, with the hotel's sprinkler system causing unintended water damage to the property.
