The Metropolitan Police Department is currently spearheading an investigation into a tragic hit-and-run incident that resulted in the fatality of a man and left his wife with serious injuries. The collision took place on Wednesday, June 12, around the middle of the day in the Southeast quadrant of the city, according to the Metropolitan Police.

According to the preliminary report, a white Ford Taurus with dark tinted windows was seen driving quickly eastward along the 2800 block of Alabama Avenue, crossing Naylor Road. At that junction, Alton Kelly, 62, was navigating the street beside his wife — both were struck in or near the crosswalk. In the aftermath of the collision, Mr. Kelly was horrifically dragged under the vehicle and through a parking lot until being dislodged on the 2900 block of Denver Street, as per the Metropolitan Police Department. The vehicle did not stop, instead, it continued to flee the scene.

First responders declared Mr. Kelly deceased at the location. His wife was promptly rushed to a nearby hospital where she is currently receiving care for her injuries which, while serious, are not expected to be life-altering. As of the last reports, no arrests have been made in connection to the case. The suspect vehicle was, however, found abandoned not too far from where the heart-wrenching event took place.
