In what can only be described as an unusual chain of events, a man aboard a minibike was apprehended after leading the Hawthorne Police in a chase through the streets. The pursuit, which took place Saturday night, was captured on video as the suspect raced down Crenshaw Boulevard with multiple police cruisers in tow. As reported by KABC, the incident began when officers attempted to pull the man over for a failure to yield, which escalated into a chase culminating at 49th Street and Central Avenue in South Los Angeles.
The pursuit seemed to effortlessly garner the attention of bystanders as patrol cars swarmed to apprehend the minibike rider who attempted to flee through Southeast LA around 9:30 p.m. CBS Los Angeles coverage included aerial footage from SkyCal showing the chase as it unfolded. Indeed, the Hawthorne Police Department confirms that the sequence was set in motion in their jurisdiction with the suspect's failure to effectively stop.
The chase concluded when one officer reportedly took decisive action to end the scenario. "An officer...bumped the bike, forcing the rider off the road," described the account from KABC. The impact of the patrol car with the minibike compelled the suspect's journey to a swift end. Following the crash, the man sought to continue his escape on foot but was quickly subdued by police and placed under arrest.
The phenomenal spectacle drew to a close without report of injury. As SkyCal's cameras hovered, the footage showed one officer using their patrol vehicle to deliberately ram the biker, as per CBS Los Angeles. The suspect's attempt to hastily run from the scene was met with the rapid response of the officers, ensuring the individual's apprehension. This incident has prompted investigations which are currently ongoing and more details are expected to be released in due course.
