A serious collision on I-75 South near Powell involving multiple vehicles prompted authorities to shut down the highway temporarily. According to a post on X by Rural Metro Fire TN, the incident, which occurred around 9:20 a.m. near mile marker 113, involved two vehicles and a tractor-trailer.

The collision resulted in injuries to three individuals. "Two people were transported to the hospital with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries," as reported by WVLT. The condition of a third person has not been disclosed to the public. Traffic was significantly affected as the Southbound lanes were sealed off while emergency personnel and the Tennessee Highway Patrol worked on scene.

Rural Metro Fire indicated that the road has since reopened but warned the public of lingering congestion. Motorists were advised, through the fire department's social media, to seek alternate routes when heading into Knoxville. The advisory suggested that traffic would remain dense for an undetermined period while cleanup and investigations continued.

According to WATE, the cleanup efforts following the crash have now concluded, and I-75 Southbound has been opened. However, travelers should expect heavier than usual traffic as the effects of the morning's events continue to impact the flow of vehicles. Officials have yet to release the names of those involved or the cause of the accident.
