
A tragic shooting incident in Compton, California, left one person dead and several others wounded on Friday evening. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department reports the shooting occurred on the 800 block of East Greenleaf Boulevard. NBC Los Angeles confirmed that a total of five people were shot, but details on what led up to the violence were initially unavailable.
The LASD Homicide Bureau quickly took to conduct a shooting death investigation following the incident which was said to have taken place shortly before 8 p.m. Nixle, a service providing updates from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, shared a report listing three female adults and two male adults as the victims. The male victim who was pronounced dead at the scene, was yet to be publicly identified. To immediately understand the sequence of events leading to the shooting remains challenging, as officials have not disclosed comprehensive details. The condition of the surviving victims, who were transported to a nearby hospital, is unknown at this time.
KTLA provided aerial footage from Sky5, showing law enforcement personnel surrounding a house with a large backyard, where the event appears to have occurred—which is located near the campus of Compton College. The footage revealed one individual lying near a pool area and several areas of the backyard taped off, with private property looking seemingly disturbed, canopies overturned and debris strewn across the lawn.
Authorities are actively seeking information from the public to understand better the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The investigation is ongoing, and the LASD Homicide Bureau encourages anyone with information to step forward.
