Commuters in Pasadena faced an unexpected obstacle as a manufactured home took an unplanned detour onto the westbound lanes of the 210 Freeway near Lake Avenue Monday evening, causing major delays that persisted into Tuesday morning. According to ABC7, the traffic flow returned to normal just after 8:42 a.m., but not before impacting morning routines and snaking lines of cars for miles.
Witnessing the incident, a big rig's flawed ballet clipped a manufactured home that slid off another, spiraling into a chaotic dance with an SUV and leaving debris in its wake, per a report from the California Highway Patrol. The journey across the freeway spanned more than twelve painstaking hours, with the CBS Los Angeles indicating that at least one injured party was hospitalized in the aftermath.
The driver of the clipped big rig, Tarane Black, recounted to CBS Los Angeles, "All of a sudden that load came through, I guess he couldn't slow down or something and ran into the back of me there." Black elaborated how his wife, resting within the truck's cab at the time, was propelled by the force of the collision and subsequently required hospitalization.
The transition from house on wheels to roadblock was unintended, leaving drivers to contend with the roadway-turned-residency while CHP officers ushered traffic past the scene. Various fragments of the home littered the highway, signaling the sheer force of the incident, "SkyCAL flew over the scene where the trailer of a big rig could be seen suffering from considerable damage," CBS Los Angeles captured in their aerial footage.
By mid-morning Tuesday, the lanes had been cleared, and the manufactured home's unscheduled freeway stay concluded, as noted by NBC Los Angeles. Though the event produced a significant interruption, it was resolved without any fatalities, and traffic resumed its familiar, albeit slightly weary, flow.
