Authorities have detained a man in Phelan after he allegedly assaulted his elderly mother and engaged in illegal firearms and narcotics activities. According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner's Department, the suspect, 41-year-old David Dimmick, faces multiple charges, including kidnapping, elder abuse, and the manufacturing of a controlled substance.
The incident began early Tuesday, June 18, when Dimmick's 71-year-old mother reported to deputies at the Phelan Sheriff’s Sub-Station that she had suffered visible injuries from an assault by her son, as detailed by the Victor Valley Sheriff's Department. During the alleged assault, she attempted to escape, but Dimmick forcibly took her in a car, where the abuse continued. Subsequent investigations revealed prior reports of the suspect firing an assault rifle outside his residence.
Inside Dimmick's Phelan home, deputies discovered a Butane Honey Oil Lab, indicative of the charged offense involving the manufacturing of a controlled substance. The arsenal and drug lab point to extensive illegal activities that contradict Dimmick's status as a convicted felon, not legally permitted to own firearms or ammunition. He is currently housed at the High Desert Detention Center, with bail set at $1,200,000.00, as per the Victor Valley Sheriff's Department.
With the investigation still underway, the Sheriff's Department urges anyone with information to reach out to Deputy J. Ballinger, at the Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station, or report anonymously through We-Tip.
