The excitement of Community Schools Week, a testament to the city’s commitment to education and engagement, commenced on Monday, June 3, at Citizens Bank Park. Over 600 seats were sold by Community School coordinators for the Phillies game against the Milwaukee Brewers, which ended in a home team triumph. The honor of the first pitch was given to Principal Thompson from George Washington High School, as reported by Phila.gov.
On the following evening, Tuesday, June 4, the spotlight shone brightly on student talent at the Community College of Philadelphia. The auditorium was alive with spectators gathered to cheer on a variety of acts during the inaugural Community Schools Talent Show. From visual arts to powerful hip-hop performances, each participant felt the embrace of a supportive crowd and left with a tangible nod to their talents—a trophy and certificate.
The week's festivities concluded with OCF's 6th Annual Community Schools Award Ceremony. Setting the theme as 'Vibrant Diversity, One Community School Family,' attendees celebrated in a spectrum of colors representing their schools. "The night honored exceptional students, community members, and partner organizations who, over the past school year, have actively engaged and contributed to the success of Community schools," Phila.gov detailed. Remarks were given by OCF’s Deputy Chief Managing Director Vanessa Garrett Harley, and the evening featured a heartwarming video tribute to the 24 awardees who were recognized with a certificate of appreciation.
