A shootout involving Pomona police officers and a suspect in the Westland Estates Pomona Mobile Home Park was captured on cell phone video by a neighborhood resident late Thursday night. The confrontation occurred in the 1400 block of West Ninth Street after officers responded to a domestic disturbance call and reports of shots fired, according to the Pomona Police Department.
The officers arrived to find a man allegedly armed with a handgun. As reported by CBS Los Angeles, the suspect is said to have shot at the officers, prompting them to return fire. The man was subsequently wounded and taken to the hospital in stable condition. Remarkably, no officers sustained injuries during the incident. A firearm was reportedly found at the scene.
Details of the encounter came to light as a video recorded by an onlooker displayed police issuing commands to the suspect moments before gunfire erupted. "Hands up!" and "Don’t reach for it!" can be heard yelled by officers, as documented by FOX LA's coverage of the incident. The name of the suspect, who the police said fired first, has not been released yet by authorities.
