Authorities are on the lookout for a driver involved in a hit-and-run accident in San Jacinto that left another motorist in critical condition this past weekend. The incident, which occurred late Saturday night near the intersection of Ramona Expressway and Old Mountain Avenue, involved a blue Kia and a silver Chevrolet. The Riverside County Sheriff's Department said that the Kia was speeding eastbound and using the westbound lanes to pass other cars when it collided with the Chevrolet, as per CBS News Los Angeles.
The collision forced the Chevrolet off the road, causing it to overturn. The driver of the Chevrolet was subsequently hospitalized and, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, remains in critical but stable condition. As the deputies responded to the crash scene, the Kia's driver had already fled, leaving the vehicle and the injured party behind. The Sheriff's Department's Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team is now in charge of the investigation, as reported by Riverside County Sheriff's official website.
The aftermath of the collision resulted in a temporary shutdown of Ramona Expressway, between Old Mountain Avenue, and East Esplanade Avenue to allow law enforcement to process the scene and collect evidence, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. Traffic was impacted for several hours as a result of the closure. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact Deputy Cortez at the San Jacinto Sheriff’s Station or call the Riverside County Sheriff’s Dispatch.
