Flames engulfed a residential home on San Antonio's far west side Sunday evening, leaving the structure in ruins and one firefighter with injuries, officials said. The San Antonio Fire Department responded to an emergency call at around 6:15 p.m. in the 600 block of Lynx Mountain to tackle the blaze that tore through the house, according to a report from KENS 5. The family was not present when the fire started, and despite the efforts of fire crews, the home's roof collapsed and the residence was deemed a complete loss.
The fire, believed to be accidental, is suspected to have originated on the home's back patio. It quickly engulfed the building, as explained in a statement obtained by News 4 San Antonio. The incident did not spread to neighboring properties. A firefighter sustained minor injuries when a ceiling collapsed during the firefighting efforts. He was treated at the scene and did not require hospitalization.
San Antonio firefighters managed to rescue two dogs from the inferno. Tragically, a third dog did not survive, the battalion chief reported according to KENS 5. The loss of a family pet underlines the unpredictable and heart-wrenching consequences that can arise from such domestic catastrophes.
The cause of the fire remains under official investigation, with both firefighting teams and forensic experts sifting through the charred remnants for clues. While the preliminary assessment points to the fire being an unintended tragedy, the final determination on how the flame sparked to life on that back patio awaits the conclusion of a thorough inquiry, as aforementioned information was relayed by News 4 San Antonio. Neighbors and community members have rallied in support of the affected family, offering assistance and condolences in the wake of the incident.
