Just when you thought it couldn't get any steamier, San Antonio heats up with the seasonal opening of 24 outdoor pools starting June 15. According to San Antonio Parks and Recreation, residents will soon be diving into summer with these accessible, aquatic escapes — and they won't have to spend a dime.

The splashy news broke that in addition to extended pool hours, early birds can catch the worm with earlier swim times at selected pool locations. While diving into the cool waters of community pools six days a week, locals will have to remember the day each one closes varies — so keeping a schedule handy wouldn't hurt, especially before putting on that sunscreen.

Be prepared for more than just lap swimming; the outdoor aquatics programming includes free activities ranging from "Wibit inflatable obstacle courses" to family-friendly "Movies in the Pool" nights. And let's not overlook the "World’s Largest Swimming Lesson" — because where else are you going to make Guinness World Record attempts with your neighbors? In case you hadn't noticed, group swim lessons and aqua fitness classes are also part of the mix, all courtesy of the city's budget for summer fun.

With the San Antonio Natatorium under renovation and out for the summer, the city has tagged in some local organizations for an assist. They'll keep the community afloat with free Community Swim Days at pools like the Northeast Independent School District (NEISD) Sports Park Pool and the Southwest Independent School District (SWISD) Aquatic Center — because nothing says community like NEISD and SWISD opening their doors, and pools, to the public.

San Antonio's swim scene went into pre-season mode on May 11 with eleven pools, setting the scene for weekend water warriors. For the true pool enthusiasts, extended season pools aim to please by staying open until September. So, with a summer schedule packed with dips, dives, and dog paddles, it's safe to say life in San Antonio is about to get a lot cooler.
