San Bernardino residents Destiny Christine Haro, 26, and Robert Kelly Ursulo, 28, were arrested in connection to the abuse of a 3-year-old child, who was hospitalized with severe injuries. Haro, the mother of the child, is accused of child abandonment and abuse, while Ursulo faces charges of torture, child abuse or endangerment, and false imprisonment.

Initially, Ursulo claimed to have been physically assaulted over a narcotics transaction, reporting that the assailant had also attacked the child. However, a subsequent investigation by deputies quickly determined that the male who assaulted Ursulo did not assault the juvenile. It was discovered that the source of the child's extensive injuries was Ursulo himself. The young victim was later transferred to Loma Linda University Medical Center Children's Hospital to receive appropriate care, according to KTLA.

Authorities found that, for six weeks before the hospitalization, Haro had left her child with Ursulo and failed to check on the child's welfare. The extent of the child's injuries, which included wounds to the head, chest, back, arms, legs, and genitals, prompted hospital staff to alert authorities. San Bernardino County Children and Family Services have since taken the child into custody and have reported that he is currently in stable condition, as per SBSD - Central.

Both Haro and Ursulo are being held at the Central Detention Center with bail set at $100,000. Furthermore, jail records reveal an additional charge against Haro for battery on a spouse, ex-spouse, or date, with an additional bail amount set at $10,000, as reported by KTLA. They are scheduled to appear in San Bernardino Superior Court on Tuesday afternoon.
