Seattle residents are facing a wet and wild start to their week, with weather advisories in full effect across the region. The National Weather Service in Seattle has issued a Flood Watch through Wednesday morning due to a second atmospheric river bringing continuous rain. Areas that could experience flooding include King, Lewis, Mason, Pierce, Skagit, and Snohomish counties.
The NWS cautions that excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Fallen tree debris from wind may also contribute to the risk of blocking urban drainage systems. Residents in these areas should remain vigilant and prepare to take necessary actions if flooding develops.
Contributing to the precarious conditions, a Wind Advisory remains effective until 11:00 A.M. South winds are reaching 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph expected. The advisory spans parts of northwest and west central Washington, impacting cities like Tacoma, Seattle, Everett, and Bremerton among others.
The potential damage from these winds is not to be taken lightly. Possible impacts include downed tree limbs and subsequent power outages, alongside the risk of unsecured objects becoming dangerous projectiles. "Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result," reports the NWS. Locals are urged to secure any outdoor items and drive with caution, especially in high-profile vehicles.
