As of June 4, Public Health – Seattle & King County issued a warning to locals: keep both yourself and your furry friends away from the waters of Juanita Beach Park. It is due to the discovery of heightened levels of bacteria that could potentially be harmful. While the park itself is still open for leisure and picnic-goers, swimming and wading are off-limits for at least one week, or until officials give the all-clear.
Recent tests conducted by the King County Water and Land Resources Division have revealed an unsettling spike in bacterial content at the beach, prompting the advisory. According to the City of Kirkland official report, the levels recorded were above the safe thresholds established for such contaminants. As a precaution, King County staff are set to return to the beach next week to emphatically ensure the continued monitoring of the situation.
Signage will be prominently displayed around Juanita Beach to remind beach-goers of the current advisory. King County makes it clear that while the temptation to take a dip might be strong, especially as temperatures rise, it is crucial to rigorously follow these health warnings. The affected community members and their pets should to definitely avoid contact with the potentially contaminated water until further testing can confirm its safety.
