
Yesterday afternoon, the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner's Department announced an investigation into an in-custody death at the West Valley Detention Center. The incident involved 61-year-old Fontana resident Kim Ray Stevens, who experienced cardiac arrest while undergoing a medical examination at a local hospital, according to the SBSD - Headquarters.
Stevens had been arrested for multiple warrants related to public intoxication and vandalism, as per the SBSD - Headquarters. Despite the medical care he was receiving for a serious condition, Stevens was pronounced dead after life-saving efforts were unsuccessful. The exact details of Stevens' medical condition, before the failure at the hospital, remain unclear, and, an autopsy is pending to find the official cause and manner of death, as per the sheriff's department's protocol.
The Specialized Investigations Division has taken the lead on the case with Detective D. Gosswiller and Sgt. M. Warrick at the helm. The Sheriff's Department is reaching out to the public for any relevant information that could assist with the ongoing investigation.
