A Simi Valley man is now facing prison after being sentenced for crimes that began in the innocence of youth and ended in the unlawful abuse of trust. Phillip Allen Fleming, age 65, was adjudged on June 20, 2024, to serve a 7-year and 4-month term in state prison. This sentencing follows his guilty plea on May 1, 2024, to charges including continuous sexual abuse and two counts of lewd acts upon a child, according to a statement released by Ventura County District Attorney's Office.
Details in the case reveal that Fleming's pattern of abuse began in 1996 and persisted until 2007, starting when the victim was only six years old and ceasing only with her departure from the home at 18. Rendered vulnerable by youth and the sanctity of the home, this victim's harrowing experience, as reported by authorities, ended only when she bravely came forward in April 2021 to disclose the molestation. By coming forth with her story, the victim opened a path to justice long overdue as enforced by the extended statute of limitations on child sex crimes in California.
Representing the state in the case against Fleming was Deputy District Attorney Benjamin Moreno. Moreno, a prosecutor within the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office Sexual Assault Unit, lauded the role of the victim's courage in facing her abuser and the investigative diligence of Simi Valley Police Detective Kellyn King. "Thanks to the victim's bravery in coming forward and Simi Valley Police Detective Kellyn King's thorough investigation, this perpetrator has been brought to justice," Moreno said.
