In a chase that occurred in Muscoy, deputies from Central Sheriff's Station apprehended a man on an off-road motorcycle after he initially failed to stop for a registration violation. The incident, which unfolded near North Macy Street and Mallory Street on June 22 at around 8:54 p.m., involved suspect Leonardo Briones Ortiz, identified as a 37-year-old Muscoy resident.
According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department, deputies J. Causey and B. Chavez signaled Ortiz to pull over using their vehicle's emergency lights and siren. Ortiz, instead of complying, led the deputies on an approximate two-mile pursuit that ended when he maneuvered too widely at an intersection and stalled his bike. The deputies took Ortiz into custody without further complication.
Upon searching the backpack Ortiz carried, deputies discovered a 9mm Glock-style pistol without a serial number, along with a high-capacity magazine. The found firearm was loaded, adding gravity to the already serious situation. Ortiz faces charges of failure to yield, possession of an unserialized handgun, and possession of a high-capacity magazine. Following his arrest, he was booked into the Central Detention Center Jail, with bail set at $100,000.00.
