
A child abuse suspect was hospitalized following a shooting with deputies in the Muscoy community of San Bernardino County, authorities reported. The shooting occurred as deputies were enforcing an arrest warrant at approximately 3 p.m. on Tuesday, in the 1900 block of West Mallory Street, as reported by the SBSD - Headquarters. During the attempted arrest, the suspect, identified as Fredy Castillo Cabrales, 37, reportedly pointed a gun at the deputies, which led to what the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department described as a "lethal force encounter."
According to a news release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department, Cabrales was shot by the gunfire and subsequently transported to a local hospital in critical condition. After receiving medical treatment, Cabrales was booked in absentia on suspicion of charges that include attempted murder of a police officer, child sexual battery, and child abuse, with his bail set at $1.3 million. While investigating the scene, deputies found a detailed investigation being led by the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division. The critical condition of Cabrales continues under hospital care.
