Early this morning, a fire ravaged a one-story commercial strip in Boyle Heights, with flames erupting through the building as firefighters rushed to the scene. The Los Angeles Fire Department reported that the blaze started at approximately 3:36 AM at 3542 E 3rd St. Firefighting crews adopted defensive tactics, focusing on exterior efforts to combat the fire through the use of ladder pipes and other heavy streams.
The intensity of the fire required a sizable response, and the first 30 firefighters at the scene managed to subdue the flames quickly, extinguishing the fire in just 19 minutes. According to LAFD spokesperson Nicholas Prange, "Crews will remain on scene for an extended period of time to chase down hidden hot spots and overhaul the building." Remarkably, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
The fire prompted an extensive commitment from the LAFD, with various equipment and personnel deployed to ensure the flames were thoroughly extinguished. Elements from the Central Bureau including Battalion 1 and companies E17, E2, and multiple other engine and truck companies responded to the call. Specialty units such as Urban Search and Rescue teams were also on hand, supporting the operation to ensure any potential victims were located and that the structure remained safe in the fire's aftermath.
The LAFD's quick and efficient response, combined with the lack of injuries, is a testament to their readiness to effectively handle such emergencies, even as they continue to investigate to pinpoint exactly what led to unleashing such destruction on the building.
