A Thousand Oaks resident has been dealt a prison sentence for crimes involving child sexual abuse material (CSAM). The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office disclosed that Bronson Schreiber, born April 20, 1995, was sentenced to a term of 1 year and 4 months in state prison on June 6, 2024, after pleading guilty to two felony counts regarding the possession and distribution of CSAM, according to the official press release. His sentencing also requires that he registers as a sex offender for life.

Detectives from the Ventura County Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force initiated an investigation after receiving a cybertip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about CSAM being uploaded to a Google account between December 2022, and January 2023, the account was found to belong to Schreiber. Following up with a search warrant on July 14, 2023, at Schreiber’s home, they discovered 680 videos and 570 images categorized as CSAM. Schreiber had also been disguising himself as a minor and used a messaging app to share, and solicit CSAM from other minors.

Further complicating Schreiber’s situation, investigators learned that he accessed the illegal content not only from his home but also while residing in a sober living facility in Oxnard. Despite this being a condition of his bail post-arrest for multiple DUIs and a hit-and-run, he utilized the facility's Wi-Fi to continue his exploitation of CSAM. "The sexual exploitation of children is horrible on its own, but using the Wi-Fi at a sober living facility to obtain CSAM recklessly placed others in danger of being investigated for this serious crime and showed the risks Mr. Schreiber was willing to take to obtain it,” Senior Deputy District Attorney Howard Wise commented on the case.

The task force’s dedication is demonstrated in their comprehensive approach, comprising members from local law enforcement, the FBI, and the United States Attorney’s Office, focusing on the welfare of children through prevention, enforcement, and partnerships with agencies at various governmental levels. Schreiber’s admission to possessing more than 600 illicit images brought a special allegation against him for aggravated possession. The work of the task force, as this case evidences, continues to be imperative in the fight against the sexual exploitation and abuse of children.
