Three people were taken to the hospital on Sunday after a vehicle collision involving a Los Angeles Police Department cruiser in Jefferson Park. The crash occurred on Adams Boulevard near Gramercy Place, where the officers were en route to assist the Los Angeles Fire Department with a psychiatric patient, as reported by NBC Los Angeles. The collision involved the police vehicle and at least one other car. The two officers sustained minor injuries, while the civilian had to be extracted from his vehicle and was described as being in critical condition.
According to CBS News Los Angeles, the crash happened late Sunday evening at the intersection of W. Adams Boulevard and S. Gramercy Place. "Both officers inside of the cruiser were in stable condition as they were taken to a nearby hospital for observation," LAPD Officer Tony Im stated.
Details regarding the circumstances that led up to the incident remain scant. The police cruiser was said to have sustained front end damage, while the black sedan involved showed severe damage to the driver's side, as per CBS News Los Angeles. The scene was overhead by SkyCal, which captured the aftermath of the collision.
In a statement obtained by NBC Los Angeles, the man was described as breathing but not conscious at the time he was taken from the scene.
