An elderly man tragically lost his life in a house fire in Hyde Park on Monday morning, while his wife managed to escape unharmed. The Los Angeles Fire Department crews were dispatched to the couple's longtime residence on 74th Street near 5th Avenue at approximately 10:30 a.m., as reported by CBS News Los Angeles.

The fire engulfed the single-story home, which notably lacked any smoke alarms—an absence that might have contributed to the tragedy. The wife, whose presence of mind allowed her to exit from the back of their 101-year-old home, avoided injuries. Unfortunately, her bedridden husband was found deceased at the front of the house, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD).
It took 43 firefighters a mere 14 minutes to fully extinguish the blaze, confining it to the 2,200-square-foot structure, a sper the LAFD. The swift response and strategies of LAFD prevented further damage and potential injuries. However, the elderly man was beyond medical help by the time firefighters found him.
