Long Beach residents were reminded of the city’s struggles with gun violence following two separate shooting incidents that occurred on the evening of June 16, 2024. The first incident unfolded near the intersection of 14th Street and Locust Avenue at approximately 6:18 p.m., where law enforcement officers arrived on the scene of a no-hit shooting involving two groups that exchanged gunfire before fleeing, with no injuries reported. According to the LBPD blotter, officers found evidence of the shooting, and that the suspect information is still under investigation.
Approximately an hour later, the Long Beach Police Department responded to a second incident on the 6600 block of Lewis Avenue. This event was initially reported as a battery but was soon confirmed as a shooting when officers discovered a male adult with gunshot wounds to his lower body. The victim, whose identity has been withheld, received medical attention from the Long Beach Fire Department and was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. As per the LBPD blotter, the suspect, 37-year-old Ryan K. Reynolds of Long Beach, was arrested nearby and a firearm was recovered.
The LBPD has stated that the shooting on Lewis Avenue stemmed from an escalating dispute between the victim and Reynolds. In a swift response, authorities contained the situation and apprehended the alleged shooter, reinforcing the community's dependence on the vigilant presence of their police force during times of crisis. Reynolds now faces a charge of attempted murder, with bail set at a striking $2,000,000.
