A Victorville man with a prior felony conviction was arrested on multiple charges, including firearm and ammunition possession and vandalism, after a traffic stop conducted by Deputy H. Cuevas on Tuesday evening. According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department, David Johnson, age 30, was pulled over around 6:51 P.M. near Hook Boulevard and El Evado Road for trespassing and loitering in a local liquor store parking lot.
The deputy reported a strong smell of marijuana coming from the car with a lit cigarette present on the driver's door. Following a search of both Johnson and his vehicle, a Walther Pistol 22 caliber and a loaded magazine were discovered. Given his status as a gang member and convicted felon, Johnson is legally prohibited from owning or even possessing such items.
Further trouble ensued as Johnson, while detained in the back of the patrol car, kicked the rear passenger door—an act that not only caused the vehicle significant damage but also presented an avenue for a possible escape. The resulting damage is estimated to be several thousand dollars.
Johnson now faces charges on several counts: P.C. 25850(C)(3)- Gang Member in Possession of a Firearm, P.C. 29800(A)(1)- Felon in Possession of a Firearm, P.C. 30305(A)(1)- Felon in Possession of Ammunition, P.C. 4532(A)(1)- Escape Attempt, and P.C. 594(A)(2)- Vandalism and Damage of Property. Following the arrest, he was booked at the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto. The Victorville Police have encouraged anyone with information about the case to come forward and contact them directly or to leave an anonymous tip with the We-Tip hotline.
