Philadelphia residents experienced a harrowing weekend of gun violence that left two people dead and several others injured in a string of shootings that lasted less than 90 minutes. According to FOX29, the first incident occurred at approximately 9:40 p.m. on Saturday, when a 28-year-old man was shot in the stomach on the 1000 block of West Hunting Park Avenue. He was reported to be in stable condition following the incident.
As the city was trying to comprehend the aftermath of the first shooting, another violent outbreak hit the 900 block of South 58th Street, where a quadruple shooting claimed the life of a 23-year-old man and injured others. Residents are expressing their dismay and frustration at the ongoing violence that plagues their city. Lifelong resident Maurice Massenburg told 6abc, "Philadelphia ought to be ashamed of herself, really. We are not the City of Brotherly Love. We don't seem to know how to get this together," adding that it is "disgraceful."
In another incident that police are describing as a road rage shooting, three people were shot near the intersection of Grays Avenue and South 62nd Street in Southwest Philadelphia. This shooting, which took place later on Saturday, left a young man dead. The violent weekend began with an additional shooting in Southwest Philadelphia on Friday night, where a man was gunned down several times at the intersection of 58th and Ellsworth streets, as reported by NBC Philadelphia.
