In a recent turn of events, a man from Windsor was arrested after a brief chase and is facing multiple charges, including driving under the influence (DUI). The incident unfolded on June 2 when deputies were alerted to a disturbance involving a DUI driver at 125 Windsor River Road. The Town of Windsor Police released that upon their arrival, they saw the suspect's vehicle, a silver Ford Ranger, leave a restaurant's drive-thru and attempted to conduct a traffic stop for a vehicle code violation.
The pursuit began when the driver, identified as 26-year-old Guillermo Angel Rizo, seemingly complied by pulling into a parking stall, only to accelerate away quickly. He forcibly attempted to escape, even as the deputies tried to apprehend him after he fled on foot and tried to jump a fence. According to a release from the Town of Windsor Police Department, Rizo had a strong smell of alcohol, and an open container was spotted inside the vehicle. His blood alcohol content was found to be .20%, which is over twice the legal limit of .08%.
Rizo's rap sheet includes previous DUI convictions from 2019, 2021, and 2023, and he was also found to be on probation. His continued disregard for the law and public safety has landed him in custody with bail set at $300,000, as per the statement given by Sgt. Jeff Toney of the Town of Windsor Police Department. The charges against him include misdemeanor and felony charges for DUI with prior convictions, violation of probation, ignition interlock device violation, driving while a license suspended for a DUI conviction, evading a peace officer with disregard for public safety, and obstructing, resisting a peace officer.
The Town of Windsor Police Department has documented the pursuit and arrest details in Case # WI240602-003.
