Early Friday morning, a 2-alarm fire wreaked havoc on an apartment complex in southwest Charlotte, obstructing the serenity of the break of day. The blaze, reported just before 2:30 a.m. at an address on Holliswood Court, demanded the resilience of 60 firefighters to tame, a battle that spanned the hour as flames consumed the housing structure, QC News reports.
Residents, displaced by the disaster found solace in the efforts of the Red Cross amidst the turmoil, which was instigated, by an unattended candle left on a third-floor balcony. While the Charlotte fire investigators were prompt to confirm the cause, they also quantified the loss – the fire caused an estimated $1.4 million in damage, as per WCNC Charlotte.
Accounts reveal that there were no casualties, yet the blaze pressured both civilians and firefighters — five of whom were evaluated on the scene but later released by Medic. Details shared by WBTV note that multiple pets were also rescued from what could be described as a snare of fire and smoke.
Charlotte did not face this calamity in isolation that morning. Two other fires escalated the urgency of city's first responders. One on Lakeside Drive, the other on Abbeydale Drive, were attributed to potential firework misuse or dismissed smoking materials. However the details of these incidents, while parallel in their capacity for destruction, do not intersect with the tragedy that unfolded in the southwest, where the community now reckons with the aftermath of a single flame left to flicker into disaster.
