In a recent announcement, County Executive Steuart Pittman confirmed the appointment of a new leader for the County's Animal Care & Control, tapping Claudia Roll for the top job starting Monday, July 29. Roll comes with a hefty resume replete with animal care expertise, particularly noted for her tenure as Chief of Staff for the Humane Rescue Alliance in Washington, D.C., where she commanded operations for a team exceeding 80, among other responsibilities she innovated during the COVID-19 pandemic, notably increasing foster placements by over 70% and rolling out a new virtual adoption process, according to her last employer.
Roll's prior positions shed light on a seasoned career fostering animal welfare, with roles that had her spearheading spay-and-neuter initiatives, overseeing kennel operations, and bolstering volunteer efforts in Albuquerque's Animal Welfare Department, all alongside her time with Animal Protection of New Mexico where she set about enhancing the standard of care through the state, “Claudia Roll has the experience and the skills to support the essential work of the staff and volunteers at Animal Care and Control, and to lead a county process to transform our agency into a restructured, mission-driven quasi-government nonprofit that puts the welfare of animals at the top of its agenda,” Pittman stated, according to Anne Arundel County's website.
Roll is poised to bring this extensive background to bear on her home turf, declaring her excitement at the prospect, “I am thrilled to be joining the Animal Care & Control team,” Roll expressed her satisfaction, exuding a readiness to serve both the animals and citizens of the county closer to her residence of Severna Park.
