Ann Arbor has been marred by two significant traffic incidents this week. A four-vehicle crash on South State Street near I-94 resulted in critical injuries and several hospitalizations, with law enforcement citing speed as a likely contributing factor. Meanwhile, a separate incident on I-94 saw a vehicle's erratic lane-crossing result in serious injuries to an adult and two children after a collision and rollover.
On Monday afternoon, a collision involving four vehicles occurred when a Chevrolet Corvette rammed into a Ford Maverick, as reported by CBS News Detroit. The chain-reaction crash, starting at 1:38 p.m., led to the Corvette entering the southbound lanes and then colliding with two additional vehicles. A 20-year-old passenger in the Corvette was severely injured and is in the hospital in critical condition. The 17-year-old driver of the Corvette and the 69-year-old driver of the Ford Maverick sustained minor injuries and were also hospitalized.
Adding to the casualties, four persons from a Jeep Cherokee and one from a Ford Edge were involved and needed medical attention, ClickOnDetroit added. The roads were briefly closed off for investigation purposes but have since been reopened.
The following day, another crash took place on westbound I-94 near Belleville Road, caused by a driver crossing all lanes to exit, detailed by WWJ Newsradio 950. The hasty maneuver led to a car rolling up an embankment, injuring the adult and two children inside, ages 8 and 9. Despite not sustaining injuries, the at-fault driver’s decision-making was criticized as the cause behind a family's serious injuries, with MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw highlighting the preventable nature of the crash, saying, “A family received serious injuries because a driver couldn’t just wait to the next exit. Be aware of your location and make smart decisions behind the wheel.”
