
West Philadelphia became the scene of a critical shooting on Saturday night when a 26-year-old man and a 16-year-old suspect both sustained life-threatening injuries. The incident, which unfolded before 9:10 p.m. along the 1200 block of North 41st Street, is said to have started as an attempted robbery according to Philadelphia police.
The victim, licensed to carry a firearm, was approached by two teenagers attempting to rob him. This confrontation escalated to gunfire, leaving the man with a chest wound and one of the assailants shot multiple times. The other teenager, also 16, was unharmed and has been apprehended by the authorities. According to the FOX 29 report, the shootout resulted in both the victim and the injured suspect being listed in critical condition at a local hospital.
The second suspect's arrest occurred at the hospital following the incident. As per the NBC Philadelphia coverage, two weapons were recovered from the scene. Police are now investigating whether this attempted robbery is connected with other recent crimes in the area.
A witness recounted, "If we would’ve walked down the street, then we would’ve been shot in the crossfire. It was scarier than ever," in a statement obtained by FOX 29.
The mosque’s custodian, Abdul Khaver, described the scene to Action News, saying, "We were in class, we heard a noise, a shooting. 'Pow! Pow! Pow!' One guy fell here. Another guy right there." He added, "I just come to the mosque and try to make it home safely." Khaver's words.
