
Tragedy struck near Salida on yesterday evening as two individuals were found deceased in a Honda sedan, with officials suspecting a domestic violence situation may be at the root of the incident. The California Highway Patrol responded to a call around 6 p.m. regarding a possible assault with a deadly weapon on the northbound Hammett Road off-ramp from Highway 99, ABC 10 reported.
Upon officers' arrival at the scene, the bodies of a man, and woman were discovered inside the car that was parked off to the side of the road. Neither individual has been publicly identified as of yet. In a statement obtained by CBS News Sacramento, the CHP informs there is "no lingering threat to the public," and the investigation into these deaths is ongoing.
The Hemmett Road off-ramp where the grim discovery was made remained closed for an extensive period yesterday night to accommodate the investigation. Early findings suggest these fatalities occurred as a consequence of an event earlier in the day; however, specifics of the altercation have not been disclosed at this time.
