The Baltimore Orioles are poised to possibly add a significant player back onto their roster as infielder Jackson Holliday, hailed as baseball's top prospect, makes his way back to the city for another shot in the majors. Holliday's potential return comes amidst a series of roster shuffles, but the Orioles have not yet confirmed a specific roster move at this time. With a game scheduled against the Toronto Blue Jays in Baltimore followed closely by a road game in Cleveland, Holliday may soon be swinging for the fences with the Orioles once more, as reported by FOX Baltimore.
Previously, Holliday didn't manage to live up to the gargantuan expectations set for him upon his debut in April, where he batted a meager .059 with only two hits in 34 at-bats. After being sent down to Triple-A, Holliday encountered an injury over the summer but has since recovered. His solid Triple-A performance, with a .271 batting average, 10 home runs, and 38 RBIs, as CBS Baltimore reported, is fueling anticipation for his return. Interestingly, his chance to regularly play at second base comes due to recent trades and injuries within the Orioles.
Detailing the roster movement, the Orioles said goodbye to second baseman Connor Norby in a trade to Miami. In return, Baltimore acquired starting pitcher Trevor Rogers and Kyle Stowers—a strategic move that opens up the field for Holliday to potentially take over at second base. Alongside the vacancy left by Norby's departure, starting player Jorge Mateo is currently sidelined due to an elbow injury, which may further secure regular play opportunities for Holliday.
