As Baltimore gears up for its annual celebration of the arts, locals and visitors are advised to brace for a maze of road closures and parking restrictions courtesy of Artscape, the nation’s largest free arts festival. According to the Baltimore City Department of Transportation, disruptions will begin on Monday, July 29th, at 7 a.m. and will remain until August 6th, affecting areas in Mount Vernon, Bolton Hill, and the Charles North and Station North Arts Districts.
For those set on navigating the confusion, the Department endorses the Waze.com app for up-to-the-minute detour directives. BPD and TEOs will be on-site, guiding diverted traffic, further buttressed by signs and electronic message boards. While the city readies itself for the throngs of art aficionados, civilians from residents to visitors are urged, to weigh alternate routes and allot additional travel time, made all the more imperative by the cavalcade of parking restrictions kicking off at the stroke of midnight on July 29th. Noncompliant vehicles will be ticketed and repositioned, with further details available via a 311 call.
For those seeking passage during the Artscape, North Avenue will stand as a beacon of continuity, remaining fully traversable for the duration of the festival. A temporary detour will also be mapped out along Maryland Avenue between Oliver Street to North Avenue. For congregants attending Sunday morning church services on August 4th, Maryland Avenue will adopt a two-way traffic pattern between Preston Street and Mt. Royal Avenue from 9 a.m. until noon. In accordance with festival modifications, the Charm City Circulator will execute route changes starting July 29th through August 6th, a trial for commuters, as delays are anticipated until normal service resumes on August 7th.
