The gastronomic landscape of Los Angeles is set for a shake-up as two Bay Area heavyweights prep their entry into the city's dining scene. According to Eater Los Angeles, Gott’s Roadside and Mr. Pickles Sandwich Shop have both confirmed plans to open outlets in Southern California.

Gott’s Roadside, a Napa Valley favorite known for its California-inflected comfort food, is eyeing a spot in Downtown Santa Monica. "Gott’s Roadside has confirmed an expansion to Downtown Santa Monica, bringing fried egg-topped California burgers, ahi tuna tacos, and chicken kale Caesar salads sometime next year," Eater LA reported. The brand, launched in St. Helena in 1999 originally under the name Taylor’s Automatic Refresher, boasts eight locations and has been previously recognized with a James Beard America’s Classics award.

Not far behind, Mr. Pickles Sandwich Shop threw open its doors in Van Nuys on July 8, marking its first foray into Southern California. Known for its California and Italian deli-inspired hot and cold sandwiches, Mr. Pickles brings a taste of Northern Californian flair to LA's diverse culinary mix. As per Eater LA, the chain's expansive growth, from its beginnings in San Mateo in 1996 to 54 locations across Northern California and a presence in Arizona.

The new Van Nuys location has been quick to make its mark, introducing sandwiches like the Goomba, filled with capicola and pepperoni, and the Mama Mia, which comes with warm meatballs and melty pepper jack cheese. "The Goomba and Mama Mia are two new sandwiches for Van Nuys; the first is filled with capicola and pepperoni, while the latter comes with warm meatballs and melty pepper jack cheese"  as stated by Eater LA
