The search for Jonathon Paul Jones, a 31-year-old man reported missing, came to a disturbing conclusion when his body was discovered last week at an East Side park. According to the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office, the remains found within a wooded area of Woodard Park’s baseball field have been confirmed as those of Mr. Jones, as reported by KSAT.
After circulating on social media, his image became all too familiar to the local community in the week leading up to the discovery. Last known contact with Jones was on June 14, and while the manner and cause of his death are still under determination by the medical examiner, the loss has already rippled throughout those who knew him.
Discovery of the body was initially reported by a resident on July 19. The call came from the 1000 block of Locke Street, indicating the presence of what appeared to be human remains. San Antonio police and SA Park police responded, finding the decomposing body of the unidentified male at that time in a brushy enclave of the park, which lies on the southeast corner of the park's baseball field, as reported by KSAT. At the scene, the SAPD’s crime scene investigators and the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office responded later with their expertise.
