The Philadelphia police reported the discovery of a body retrieved from the Delaware River near Linden and Delaware Avenues yesterday. Following a response at approximately 3:30 p.m., the Marine Unit recovered the remains of an African American man, believed to be in his 40s, as per the initial details shared by FOX29 News.
Further information came to light when a family identified the man as the missing 42-year-old Darnell Dogan. Chief Inspector Scott Small declined to elaborate on the specifics, but indicated that there appeared to be no "obvious signs" of trauma on Dogan's person. The family's report and the deceased's attire seemingly matched, which led them to quickly suspect that the body was indeed Dogan's. This tragic development was first reported by CBS News Philadelphia.
Dogan, who was known to be an avid fisherman from Frankford, was last seen on a boat late Tuesday night until early Wednesday morning. His absence became apparent the following afternoon when concerned family members filed a missing person report. The police had conversed with those who accompanied Dogan on the boat and planned to revisit these individuals for further questioning to uncover more about the circumstances surrounding Dogan's disappearance, as stated in the report by 6ABC.
Family suspicions regarding the involvement of foul play have been voiced by Dogan's relatives. "He was just down here fishing. That's it. So I don't understand it," said Johnson, a family member who accused that something amiss had occurred on that fateful night. In a heartrending plea, Johnson implored, "That's my baby boy. Nothing is going to fix this. Not time. None of that," which she revealed in an interview with 6ABC. An autopsy to confirm the cause of death is expected to be completed on Friday, shedding further light on the tragic loss of Darnell Dogan.
